In 2002, Matt graduated from the University of Indiana Pennsylvania, with a degree in Secondary Education. He was recruited by Wicomico County to teach 6th grade Ancient History. He coached middle school intermural flag football, soccer, and basketball. After two and a half years teaching middle school, Matt was requested to transfer to James M. Bennet High School where he taught American Government. While in Salisbury, Matt received the mentor teacher of the year award from Salisbury University. He also coached the mock trial team and supervised the chess club.
Matt then relocated with his wife Grace to central Maryland where he has taught US History, American Government, World History, AP Human Geography, Ancient History, and World Religions at Reservoir High School. While at Reservoir, Matt has coached varsity football and basketball. Matt has earned his masters in curriculum and instruction from McDaniel College. He has also served as the Professional Development School Liaison for Towson University supporting the next generation of educators.
Matt first got involved in politics with former President Obama’s campaign in 2008 where he made phone calls and knocked doors. In 2014, he had the honor of helping a fellow educator, Eric Ebersole, become a Maryland state delegate. Since then he has chaired the government relations committee and ran for the Baltimore County Board of Education in 2018.
